Why is it that “misinformation” (now there’s a euphemism) and group lies are so popular and prolific?

Why do we keep going down these holes?
Jan. 6th… Antivax… Election fears… Racial fears… Social fears…
Conspiracy theories… Warped Algorithms… Perverted Politics… Greed…
…We accept the lies that we like. So, Why do we like lies?
